i recently finished reading snow crash (1992) by neal stephenson. a more postmodern take on the cyberpunk genre, less innovative than the founding works of the genre, but fun nonetheless. follows the story of a pizza delivering, intelligence gathering cyberspace ninja named hiro protagonist (yes really). a mysterious drug/virus named snow crash is going around, turning people to a cult led by an eccentric tech billionaire/preacher. the world is very well written, so much info and texture is packed in, giving life and background to every element of near-future LA. also gets really deep into a faux-mythology of ancient sumeria and the origins of linguistics, and it ties into the story of snow crash really really well. anyways it was pretty good.
