I've been playing again and I've noticed that dying sometimes is actually better for your overall score  not dying once before clearing the game has earned me a score of around 60k~, but dying once in the last level has give me like 10k more, I assume because you're killing more aliens after all, playing the same level multiple times. here I'm attaching a picture of the final score of quite an unfortunate run in which I died several times because of silly mistakes on earlier levels... and the score is even higher! so I reckon the best run score-wise would probably involve getting to the last level with all your lives, and then constantly killing all aliens except one and dying to that one, over and over until you only have one life! kinda like higurashi, don't you think? XD I want to try it but I think the nervousness would make me mess up and lose the last life too ;_;
