Hellllooooo party people, I just recently started doing food delivery so I thought it may be fun to chronicle a little bit about my experience delivering food after getting fired from my 9-5.

For people who don't know me yet, my name is Gwen and I'm 22 years old. I've got an unfinished college degree (missing one class' worth of credits) and a highschool diploma locked behind a $300 paywall, not that anybody asks to see your diploma.

I had a pretty massive depressive episode last year that led to me getting let go from my job in November, I've been applying to jobs since but with absolutely zero luck- this world is brutal.
My resume is pretty damn good, at least for the experience / unfinished degree I have, with only 3.5 years of practical IT experience I thought I would be able to snag a help desk job in atleast a month, well now we're a few months down the line and I don't have jack SQUAT but interviews that lead nowhere and companies that decided to go with other candidates. It's frustrating, but I've made my peace knowing that something will come down the line or the loan sharks hired by Verizon Wireless will kill me eventually.

Unfortunately for me, bills don't go anywhere and I've exhausted asking my dad for money without generating excess guilt from taking cash from my retired father.

So... Costco won't take me, IT jobs won't take me, where do I go?

Doordash, I guess?
I'm very hesitant to take a gig like this- part of me feels above it all, like I'm a worse person for delivering food to people instead of telling old farts to turn their computers off and back on again, but shame doesn't make money so I signed up for the app.

It's surprisingly lax to get approved for doordash, and it's damn quick too.

I gave them my driver's license number, a picture of my ID, 3 pictures of my face and my SSN/banking details and I was in!

They have some sort of automated background check system in place so I had to wait about 5 minutes or so and they told me I could start grabbing food, and so I did.

First order that came in was for Culvers, butterburger combo w/ a drink and a concrete mixer. Solid order, a little high in calories but who can go to culvers without some custard? Can't say I blame em'

Funnily enough my second order was also for culvers, so I got to do them both in one trip. This is huge for my EV, I'm gonna make it big.

There was one big, fatal, gigantic, catastrophic, evil, flaw.
The second order of culvers did NOT tip and was a decent 15 minutes away... Yikes. I'm very quickly learning the flow of being selective, but I already committed so whatever.

The third order... It was to the damn place I got that pulled pork from the other day!!! What the hell!!! Knowing I didn't order anything myself was just heartbreaking, and it smelled so damn good in my car, and I had a long drive ahead of me (about 18ish minutes) and I was going to suffer.
I tolerated it, though because this dude tipped 15 bucks!! yay!!

That's kind of the rest of the notable things that happened, given that I only drove for about 3 hours, some dude came into the mcdonalds while I was waiting and started complaining that his burger had pickles on it and he wanted a refund, buddy was 60 years old. grow up. u can eat pickles.

I kinda lost the plot but I walked out of today with a fresh $62.xx USD and less shame than I thought I'd have.

Is anyone on the forum familiar with this kind of work? Any tips on what I should or shouldn't be doing?

Lunacy no longer lurks within this world, for it dwells in broad daylight. The weeds of madness and disharmony have wrung themselves so tightly around our roots that it’d take a millennium of deforestation to regain our lost sense.

It's honestly baffling to me that people use these services and don't tip. I'm hoping this works well as a nice gig between bigger things!
