Ocarina of Time- Potential best game of all time?[message #39] |

I think that The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time might be in contention for the best game of all time! I think I prefer the N64 original to the 3DS remake (the vibes!!), I think it's an all time classic, and one of my favorites to replay over and over again.
Also ganondorf is bad freakin ass
What do you think about OOT?

I've never played it but I think historical game heiankyo alien is probably better
A lonely, quiet person has observations and experiences that are at once both more indistinct and more penetrating than those of one more gregarious; his thoughts are weightier, stranger, and never without a tinge of sadness. (...) Loneliness fosters that which is original, daringly and bewilderingly beautiful, poetic. But loneliness also fosters that which is perverse, incongruous, absurd, forbidden.Report message to a moderator

ocarina of time isn't even the best zelda game........ twilight princess is better in every way.....
much darker story too.....................

I don't agree that twilight princess is better, I think it's an interesting development of the formula but after Majora's Mask Nintendo thinks that they need a special gimmick for every new 3d zelda, and I think it cheapens the experience. I don't find wolf link very fun, and the boat in windwaker is definitely a weakness. OOT has great music, a simple but fun story with a surprising amount of real funny moments, and it revolutionized the zelda series into what many people love so much today. It's timeless, and I think it's a strong contender for best game ever, but if not it is at least foundational to games as a whole.

A common opinion but one i believe is championed with lots of nostalgia. I do believe that MM appeals more to childish sensibilities, it is fun to explore termina with the transformation masks, i just find it a little bit unfocused, which makes sense due to the time constraints on its development. They also really messed up the camera controls- once you notice the difference from OOT it will bug you forever!

To me the best part of MM is that it is built like a miniature sandbox where you can do pretty much whatever with the only constraints being the time limit and the ressources that are reset at each loop. It is unfocused, but I believe it adds to the charm of the game, compared to OoT which is very polished but doesn't really leave you much freedom outside of sometimes collecting rare stuff.

I've never played it but it's definitely not the best game of all time...

while OOT is a more polished and finished game with a larger storyline to it, im much more of a majoras mask enjoyer in mostly every aspect. the reuse of assets into something still totally original is done so well to me. the aesthetic difference in it was done so well too i could gush about it forever

i like the incentive to explore and get to know everyone, while you can very much do that in oot, the sense of urgency from the main quest seems to overshadow it all. majoras mask being in an infinite cycle means its only as urgent as u make it. it feels a lot more intimate as u go thru each cycle and do the quests in mm, theres so many more moving parts in focus and thats what i love about it

I think that's totally fair, just far from my preferred kind of game. I definitely liked how much more open it was when I was younger, though. I liked to explore and MM lets you explore quite a bit out of sequence.

I played majora's mask! I liked it but it was kinda disturbing... it gave me nightmares...

I think I'm gonna boot MM this weekend tbh, every time I've played it I haven't even gotten to the part where you're allowed to remove the deku mask! I played OOT for the first time a few years ago and just never got around to MM despite loving OOT
