mahjongsoul clears. you can play on browser, while in riichi shitty you have to download a lot of nonsense and it takes a long time; the roster of characters is WAY better (does riichi city even have men??); the collaborations are better; the EMOJIS are better, for while in RC they are animated they are LESS, which you feel a lot when playing, and also less inspired; generally speaking, in mahjongsoul you can play without it looking like you're watching porn; for higher ranks, there's barely anyone playing in riichi city; and mahjongsoul just plays better too. the one advantage riichi city has is that it's more generous with its gacha... but... the characters are all bad so what's the point?

Riichi City is for sure way better, you're able to complete daily quests and such to get pulls at a decent rate, unlike majsoul where a single pull can take 20-30 hours of grinding. Majsoul does have a gintama collab though so that's cool

I find the microtransaction element of these games the least important, especially since you don't really need characters or decorations to actually play mahjong. I managed to get characters in mahjongsoul just fine playing for free. I have several now. and why would I want them all when I'm not even gonna use them?
on the other hand, only after playing RC for 40 hours did I manage to roll a character (and I prefer the starter anyways), so is it really that much generous?

good argument. I forgot about that. I can see why people would prefer the way rank points work in RC. still I don't like how few people are playing ranked in RC starting from sun room.
